A MAJOR road in Bournemouth has reopened early after weeks of temporary traffic lights and traffic.
The A35 Christchurch Road in Bournemouth has fully reopened after Wessex Water completed sewer repairs ahead of schedule.
Emergency work on a collapsed sewer meant the eastbound carriageway between Manor Road and Boscombe Spa Road was closed on August 2.
The work was expected to take a minimum of six to eight weeks.
However, the company also closed the westbound carriageway in the same location from August 12 to August 15.
Wessex Water said engineers worked extra hours to ensure the road was opened earlier and in time for the highly anticipated Bournemouth Air Festival.
Temporary above-ground pipework, which was set up to maintain customers’ sewerage services, is due to be removed on Friday, August 30.
Knole Road remains closed as it is the location for a site compound.
A Wessex Water spokesperson said: “We’d like to thank road users for their patience at this busy time of year, which helped to ensure these essential repairs were completed quickly and safely.”
