A MAN attacked with a glass bottle in the early hours of the morning in Bournemouth town centre is no longer in a critical condition, police have said.
The man in his 30s was taken to hospital for treatment to injuries initially described as life-threatening following the incident in the area of Poole Hill on Saturday morning, August 31.
However, police have been informed he is no longer in a critical condition.
Police received a report at 4.11am from the ambulance service that a man had been struck with a glass bottle.
Giving an update on Saturday morning, police said the victim and suspect were known to each other.
No arrests have been made at this time.
A full investigation into this incident has been launched led by detectives.
A cordon has been put in place between West Hill Road, Poole Hill and Commercial Road while police recover evidence, and further enquiries are carried out.
Dorset Police's spokeswoman said: “From our early investigations we would like to reassure the public that we don’t believe this incident to be linked to the Bournemouth Air Festival or the night-time economy.
“During the weekend, there will be increased high visibility patrols in the area to engage with the public, offer reassurance and respond to any reported crime and anti-social behaviour. Officers can be approached by members of the public with information or concerns.”
Several officers are manning the tape, directing residents around the area. Poole Hill car park is open but accessed via West Hill Road.
Residents were shocked to hear somebody was in hospital fighting for his life, but didn't seem as shocked at another serious incident.

He is now fighting for his life in hospital.

Bournemouth resident John Cotterill said: “There’s too many incidents happening in recently.
"All these stabbings, bottlings... something needs to be done about it. I worry about my grandkids going out into the town centre.
“Such a shame.”
Poole Hill resident Sandra out walking her dog said: “It’s getting really bad Bournemouth.
“I’m surprised they haven’t got anybody given where it is. There will be CCTV everywhere.”
Another passer-by, when told a man was bottled overnight in the town centre, added: “Typical isn’t it. I won’t say any more.”
