THE MET Office has released a yellow warning for Dorset as thunderstorms are expected to sweep across the country.
A yellow warning spreading from Dorset to Newcastle has been released by the Met Office as thunderstorms and as much as 75mm of rain could be seen in some places on September 1.
Isolated storms will start in southern England on the night of August 31 before increasingly getting worse throughout the following day with the Met Office warning that the most adverse weather should be expected in the south of England.
A spokesperson for the Met Office said: "The extent of these thunderstorms is very uncertain, and many places will miss them, but where they do occur, 30 to 40 mm of rain may fall in less than an hour with perhaps over 75 mm in one or two places, leading to a chance of flooding and disruption.
"Frequent lightning strikes and hail will be additional hazards, most likely across southern and central England.
"A few showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected to develop across parts of southern England on Saturday night, but by Sunday morning there is an increasing risk of more active and organised heavy showers and thunderstorms moving in to, or developing across, parts of southern England.
"The risk of storms will then steadily transfer broadly northwards through the afternoon and into the early evening."
The weather service has warned the public that there is a slight chance of delays to public transport and driving conditions may become difficult.
On top of this, it has suggested there is a chance some may be affected by power cuts and flooding to homes and businesses.
