A WOMAN was sexually assaulted and a man glassed in two unrelated serious incidents in Bournemouth town centre at the weekend.
A woman aged in her 40s was sexually assaulted in the Lower Gardens in the early hours of Sunday morning, September 1.
Dorset Police received a report at 3.24am a woman was sexually assaulted in the gardens by a man she met earlier in the evening.
On Sunday morning, part of the gardens was taped off with officers manning the cordon to allow an examination of the area to be carried out.
Police said a full investigation is underway, led by detectives from Bournemouth CID.
A Dorset Police spokesperson said the woman is being supported by officers.
The spokesperson added: “Enquiries are ongoing, including getting a full account from the victim.
“No arrests have been made.”
The force said there will be an increased police presence in the area and local officers can be approached by anyone in the community with any concerns.
In a separate incident the previous day, a man in his 30s was glassed during the early hours of Saturday morning, August 31, in the area of Poole Hill and the Triangle.
He was taken to hospital with injuries initially described as life threatening, but officers later said he had stabilised as the day progressed.
Police received a report at 4.11am from the ambulance service the man had been struck with a glass bottle.
Dorset Police’s spokeswoman said the victim and suspect are known to each other, while adding the incident was not believed to be linked to the air show or night time economy.
No arrests have been made and a full investigation led by detectives was launched.
A cordon was placed between West Hill Road, Poole Hill and Commercial Road while police and forensics officers recovered evidence.
Residents were shocked to hear somebody was put in hospital in such a bad way, but didn't seem as shocked at another serious incident in the town.
Bournemouth resident John Cotterill said: “There’s too many incidents happening in Bournemouth recently.
“All these stabbings, bottlings... something needs to be done about it. I worry about my grandkids going out into the town centre.
“Such a shame.”
Poole Hill resident Sandra out walking her dog said: “It’s getting really bad Bournemouth.”
