THE COASTGUARD helped rescue a casualty on a Purbeck coast path after they suffered a medical emergency.

The casualty was extracted from the path by the Coastguard helicopter after suffering a medical emergency on a coast path at around 2.30pm on August 28.

Once collected, the helicopter then landed in a field in Whitecliff to allow South Western Ambulance Service to collect the casualty and take them to the next level of care on land.

A spokesperson for the Coastguard said: "A multi-agency operation had successfully evacuated the casualty into CG helicopter R175.

"Once on scene at the Helicopter Landing Site (HLS), we secured the area, making it safe for R175 to land. The casualty was transferred across to South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust ambulance and transported to the next level of care.

"We then re-secured the HLS, allowing R175 to depart. A small debrief was held on scene, then the team headed to Poole Fire Station to deliver a piece of technical rescue equipment back.

"Once handed over, we stood and returned to our station."
