A BOURNEMOUTH sculptor known for his world-famous miniature artwork has created a new collection to honour the return of a popular movie.
David worked with his daughter Abigail to create the Beetlejuice collection currently being exhibited at Hammond Galleries
The special artwork is the sum of more than three years of hard work and dedication.
The microscopic Beetlejuice was created to compliment the release of the new Beetlejuice film on the September 6, along with a giant sandworm made by Abigail measuring three meters long.
Speaking on the making of the masterpiece, David said: “I made this Beetlejuice (Betelgeuse) surrounding it with a psychedelic swirling mixture of my favourite colours.
“The pink, magenta, purple and yellows contrast with the figure’s black and white striped suit.
“His head is crowned with a stock of bright green hair giving him his famous mad look.
I made his white teeth individually and placed them into his mouth using a flies antenna. I also found knotting his microscopic tie was challenging task with only one pair of hands.
“The sign took weeks of dexterity and artistic control to write so precisely.
“So many attempts were undertaken before the end result was achieved it almost ended up being thrown out the window in frustration.”
David also revealed that he worked at night for 6-10 hours because he wished to avoid the vibrations of daytime traffic.
A spokesperson for Hammond Galleries where the collection is being held said: “David is a rising star and one of the top micro artists in the world.
“He is a trailblazer in the field of microscopic art, having created many world first’s including the first wearable art gallery inside a watch and the world’s first microscopic triptych painting.
David gained international acclaim in 2021 with his initial release of six microscopic masterpieces.
“In 2023, he astounded the world by creating the first Wearable Art Gallery; a watch containing three Vincent van Gogh masterpieces, available for purchase at £150,000.
“Since then, David has continued to push the boundaries of art with new series of masterpieces, micro sculptures, commissions, and an upcoming exhibition.”
David has also created microscopic sculptures of Van Gogh paintings and children’s cartoon, Snoopy.
