MOREBUS hosted a special event recently, designed to prompt women to consider a new career as a bus driver.
The event, dubbed ‘Drive a Bus Like Us', has been described as a “huge success”, with several attendees from across the region keen to have a go at driving one of Poole-based operator’s specially branded buses.
A special driving circuit was set up at Bournemouth University to ensure the would-be bus drivers had a safe environment to have a go.
Morebus head of communications Nikki Honer said she is hoping to welcome some new members to the team very soon.
She said: “We were pleased to welcome potential female employees to our event because we know, across the UK, woman are vastly under-represented within the bus industry,”
“Some have told us they previously didn’t feel they could drive a bus. But this is simply not the case. Anyone who can drive a car can potentially handle a double decker.
“With the right training, it’s far easier than people think - and those visiting our event discovered this for themselves.”
She added: “Those who attended were from a number of different employment backgrounds - including customer service, care and retail.
“It was a successful event, with many interviews taking place on the day - and job offers to follow.
“The feedback from all those who came along was that it was a lot easier than they expected and they were really pleased they gave bus driving a try.
“Of course, aside from this particular event, we’re accepting applications from anyone - male, female or non-binary - for full-time or part-time bus drivers. All we ask is that you have a car driving license and an enthusiasm and aptitude for the role. We’ll do the rest.
“Successful applicants will receive full training, uniform and free travel for themselves and a nominee.”
