A CLASSIC Ford Anglia first registered in Southampton in 1949 is going up for auction in Dorset next month.
South Western Vehicle Auctions (SWVA) will be selling the Anglia E4 94A on behalf of the vendor’s late husband who became the vehicle’s second owner from new in 1976.
Owen Shepherd, classics specialist at SWVA, is anticipating interest in this lovingly restored and meticulously presented car.
He said: “It is highly unusual to find a vehicle together with such good quality documentation.
“First registered in Southampton by Percy Hendy Ltd, the original owner was a lady driver, Mrs. L Cull who purchased the car for the sum of £319, 16 shillings, and 8d.”
In addition to the log book and sales receipt, the car comes with the manufacturer’s warranty booklet and the Ford Eight and Anglia handbook – a valuable addition to any collector.
Finished in black with a brown interior, the E494A Anglia was in production between 1949 and 1953, with a total of 108,878 units made and was the lowest-priced four-wheel car in Britain at the time.
Owen added: “This is a fine example with less than 5,000 miles on the clock, and with the provenance it is bound to attract interest.
“It is good to have a car rich in local history and will be a great first-time collectors’ car or to add to a collection.”
The Classics auction at SWVA in Holton Heath takes place on Thursday, October 31 at 10am, with viewing of all classic models available from October 26 to 30.
