WORK on a loose manhole cover that gave residents “sleepless nights” has been completed.
Workmen were seen starting work on the cover on Tuesday evening, September 10, one of the residents who got in touch with the Echo said.
Virgin Media has now said the cover in Poole Road, near to Netherhall Gardens heading into Westbourne, has now been fixed.
Virgin Media’s spokesman said: "Having gained the necessary approvals, our team has swiftly completed repair works on the manhole cover on Poole Road.
“We apologise to nearby residents for any inconvenience caused.”
One 92-year-old Westbourne resident, who asked for anonymity, said: “The traffic goes up and down but I haven't been out to see it as I can’t get out. It’s a bit of a devil.
“It happens about every night, but on some nights it doesn’t seem as bad because I’m in the land of nod.”
Another Westbourne resident said the manhole cover has been loose for about the past month, adding: “The cars are having to swerve around the manhole cover, particularly the Deliveroo and moped riders. It’s only a matter of time when there will be an accident.”
