A WESTBOURNE pub is undergoing eight weeks of renovations which will see a 'complete overhaul inside and out'.
Scaffolding has covered the outside of The Libertine as it prepares to be given a major refurbishment by its owners, Young's.
Starting on August 27, the work will continue until October 24 with the pub shut for three and a half weeks from September 30 as work is focussed inside the pub.
General manager, Richard Carpenter, said: "It's a major refurbishment, it's almost going to be a completely new pub.
"We're looking at over a million pounds we're spending so it's quite a big deal. It will be certainly good for Westbourne and it's a real level up from what we're currently doing."
Richard described the new look as based on a traditional pub which will contain fireplaces and 'cosy corners'.
While the scaffolding is affecting business for now, he believes it's a small price to pay for the business he believes the new look will bring.
He said: "It's definitely taking a bit of a hit but unfortunately it's just one of those things. We are still open, still trading, and the kitchen is open for another week.
"What's coming is a traditional style pub with cosy corners, fireplaces, and home-cooked, fresh British food. That's basically what we do."
Serving as general manager at the pub from 2016-2020, Richard returned to the pub in July 2023 after he was asked back by Young's.
Previously owned by Marstons, the pub chain company faced financial difficulties and sold the pub to Young's to help relieve its issues.
Richard said: "I ran the pub four years ago under the previous ownership and I left. Young's approached me about working for them and said 'we would like you to return to The Libertine'.
"Marstons I think were in a bit of trouble so that's why they sold it along with a lot of other businesses.
"It's a huge investment. I've been doing this for 20 years and I know the the business trade very well and what we're trying to do is really level it up."
