A GROUP of care home residents were treated to an exotic experience with some scaly and fluffy animals.
Zetland Court Care Home in Bournemouth enjoyed a friendly visit from a number of exotic animals including a milk snake and albino ferret.
The day was organised by The Creature Teachers, a company that promotes animal education and animal therapy.
Research has shown that having something to pet or stroke can result in lower blood pressure, better heart rate and reduced stress.
Taking part in this activity, resident Mike was amazed when he held the ferret.
He said: “This has been my first time meeting a ferret. She was softer than I thought she would be, this has definitely been a very different afternoon.”
Residents were also educated on interesting facts about each animal such as their diet, habit and welfare.
Rebecca Smith, Business Relationship Manager, added: “It was really lovely to see the residents’ faces light up when these animals came in.
“They brought joy to our residents, boosted their mood and encouraged social interaction.”
