AN EAST Dorset pub has been named as the runner-up at the Great British Pub Awards.
The Old Thatch in Wimborne Road West, Ferndown has been placed firmly in the top five family pubs in the country thanks to the award.
While the pub narrowly missed out on the top spot, bosses say the recognition “affirms its status as one of the finest family-friendly pubs in the country”.
Pub owner Andy Lennox said: “We are incredibly proud to have been recognised as one of the top five family pubs in the UK and to take the runner-up spot.
“While we didn’t manage to claim the top prize this year, this is still an amazing achievement for our team and our loyal customers.
“We’ll continue working hard to make The Old Thatch a fantastic place for families to visit, and who knows—maybe next year we’ll take the number one spot.”
Known for its thatched roof and traditional charm, The Old Thatch offers a place for families, classic pub food and activities for children and adults.
It also has a spacious garden and children’s play areas.
The judges from the Great British Pub Awards commended The Old Thatch for its “exceptional service, family-friendly facilities and its success in creating a relaxed, enjoyable environment for parents and children alike”.
The Old Thatch narrowly missed out on the top spot by a pub in Bristol.
