The Arts by the Sea Festival is returning to Bournemouth for 2024 with a number of impressive performances set to be showcased.

Taking place from Friday, September 27 to Sunday, September 29, the festival has the theme of 'Taste' which aims to create a "feast for the senses".

Festival director Andrea Francis encourages visitors to “challenge their tastes by sampling the eclectic and vibrant array of acts and performances on offer.”

Meanwhile, Councillor Andy Martin, Portfolio Holder for Culture, said: "This festival is a celebration of the rich cultural tapestry that defines Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole. With so many free, accessible and family-friendly activities, there truly is something for everyone."

The art and performances on display can be seen at various locations around Bournemouth, including Lower Gardens, Pavillion Terraces and Pier Approach.

Evanescent by Atelier Sisu

Evanescent is an interactive bubble sculpture that will illuminate the Lower Gardens throughout the weekend.

These giant bubble structures allow people to explore a "playful world of light and colour" and are created by award-winning artistic duo Atelier Sisu.

This is comprised of Peruvian sculptor and industrial designer Renzo B Larrivee and architect and artist Zara Pasfield.

K*TCHEN by Jasmin Edwards

Bournemouth-based circus performer and multi-hoop specialist Jasmin Edwards will be a key artist to look out for.

K*TCHEN will include a satirical commentary on women’s roles in both life and art, using her signature hooping skills, expect her circus magic to be visually spectacular and deep.

Arts by the Sea adds: "As part of her work, Jasmin brings people of all ages and backgrounds together. Her incredible performances to both schools and care homes in the lead up to the festival created emotional as well as physical reactions – so be ready to be moved."

Four Corners Collectif

This Bournemouth-based collective offers a fusion of African and Caribbean rhythms, blending afrobeat, soukous and reggae.

Their multicultural sound is perfect for anyone who loves to dance and immerse themselves in vibrant, rhythmic music.

Twist and Shine by Kaleider

In the Lower Gardens, the Twist and Shine exhibit will be available to interact with as visitors can "manipulate luminous sculptures to create your very own masterpiece".

Arts by the Sea adds: "Curated by Kaleider, each section of the sculpture can be rotated and manoeuvred, giving you endless possibilities in creating your own version of the artwork."

The Honey Pot, The Torchlight Trail and Fireworks

One of the festival’s most anticipated events, The Honey Pot, is an artistic installation that will serve as the centrepiece for Sunday’s grand finale.

Starting with The Torchlight Trail, community groups and schools will walk along the Bournemouth promenade towards The Honey Pot.

Its structure will be ceremoniously set alight on the beach, along with a spectacular fireworks display, bringing the festival to a close.
