A NETWORK of Nature Buddies will be developed across Dorset – to encourage people to enjoy the county’s nature.
They will help break down barriers to encourage individuals to connect with nature, whether by offering support, or accessing transport to reach events.
The National Lottery Heritage Fund has offered £248,800 for the project which will come under the Dorset National Landscape team, previously known as Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Said Phil Stirling, Dorset National Landscape Partnership Chair: “We are absolutely delighted to have secured this funding, thanks to National Lottery players.
"It’s a fantastic opportunity for the team to expand our reach in demonstrating benefits of the natural environment to health and wellbeing in Dorset.
"This grant will enable us to make a tangible difference, helping communities to help others to experience the joys of nature. We’re eager to get started.”
Project Cordinator Jules Hammon said the funding means that individuals interested in becoming Nature Buddies can now register their interest: “At this stage we are particularly keen to hear from organisations that would like to upskill their existing volunteers to be able to offer Nature Buddies.
"All volunteers will receive full training and support. Together, we can make a meaningful impact on our community and the natural environment.”

The Landscape Team, part of Dorset Council, has the mission to protect and regenerate this designated the area, making sure everyone can enjoy it.
It has been running Stepping into Nature wellbeing projects since 2016.
