NEW 'wayfinding’ signs have now been installed around Wimborne.

The signs have been officially welcomed by the town’s mayor Jeff Hart with a special ribbon-cutting ceremony.

In 2017, Wimborne BID commissioned wayfinding experts Design JD to carry out a consultation and produce a report on signage in Wimborne.

The report showed where signs should be, what they should look like, and what they should say, so that people can most effectively find their way around the town.

Wimborne BID Manager Tammy Sleet said: “It’s so satisfying to see the first phase of our new family of signs has been installed in Wimborne, with ten new signs and posts in the town centre and two in Riverside.”

Wimborne BID chair Fiona Harwood added: “Businesses feel strongly that signage is important to people being able to find them.

"In today's world, there are so many visual messages that it's hard for advertising like A-Boards to cut through.

“These signs are clear with visitor information, business lists and maps that will help pedestrians discover more of the town, and more of our great businesses."

So far, the project has been solely funded by Wimborne BID, with support given by Wimborne Minster Town Council and Dorset Council.

All the maps and listings will be reviewed every six months and changed if necessary to keep information up to date.
