A SUSPECTED chemical substance was found at a home in Southbourne.

Police officers on a routine patrol in Belle Vue Road entered the home shortly after 7.30pm on Wednesday, October 16.

When they entered, they found what they believed to be a “chemical substance” inside and phoned for help from the fire service.

Three fire engines arrived at the home to work out what it was.

However, the fire service has since confirmed no substance was found. Dorset Police has said it is not being treated as a criminal investigation.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service’s spokeswoman said: “Crews from Christchurch, Redhill Park and Poole attended.

“Two breathing apparatus wearers entered the property with a gas monitor and no substance was found. Our stop was at 9.04pm.”

Dorset Police’s spokesman added: “Upon entering, officers reported the presence of suspected chemical substances at the address and the fire and ambulance services were requested to attend.

“The fire service then led on the incident.

“There were no reports of any injuries and initial assessments indicate that there is no wider risk to the public.

“Officers left the scene at around 9.40pm.”

No arrests were made.

A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service added: “We were called at 7.49pm on Wednesday, October 16 to an incident in Bournemouth.

"We sent one double-crewed ambulance, and an operations officer to the scene.”
