A SCHOOL has seen phenomenal success in football and have been rewarded with the School Games Gold Award.

Ferndown Middle School’s young footballers have lifted some impressive silverware recently, with the U11s nine-a-side team winning the Pitman Cup for the best in Dorset and the seven-a-side team taking the county title.

Their success saw the school given the award, which is a part of the government-led award scheme that was launched in 2012 and is facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust.

The award recognises recipients for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community.

Pupils at Ferndown Middle School take part in a wide range of sports, from rugby to cricket and netball to cross country, for both boys and girls.

The school is a part of the Castleman Academy Trust.

“They trained very hard and showed what is possible with dedication and spirit.

“But we are equally proud of all those who put effort into their sport in lessons and after school. We want children to enjoy these activities and we offer a wide range so there is something for everyone.

“Being fit and healthy by playing sport helps children in the classroom and teaches some valuable and life-long lessons.”

Amber Barter, headteacher, said: “Inter-school competitions are tremendous for the whole school and they give a sense of pride and belonging.

“We offer a well-rounded education which includes sport and other well attended extra-curricular activities.

“We value the opportunities that these provide to support our students in building their confidence, resilience and ambition.”
