ALMOST 5000 residents in Dorset could be missing out on financial support of £75 a week from pension credit.
Thousands of people who are of state pension age, 66 years old or above, and on low income could be entitled to the support.
The money can help with general housing costs and bills and is separate from state pension.
This means people can still be eligible even if they had other income, savings or own a home.
To check for eligibility, use the pension credit calculator on the government website or call the claim line on 0800 99 1234.
Cllr Ryan Hope, Dorset Council cabinet member for customer, culture and community engagement said: “This is money that many people over state pension age are entitled to and it can open up access to other support to help with the continued rise in cost of living
“People who receive pension credit can also become eligible for the winter fuel payment, council tax reduction, housing benefit (for renters) or support for mortgage interest (homeowners), the ability to apply for a free TV licence (if you are 75 or over) and help with NHS costs.
“The deadline to apply for pension credit and be eligible to claim the winter fuel payment is 21 December, so time is running out.
“If you, or someone you know, could benefit from this additional income, check now to see if you are eligible.
“It only takes a few minutes.”
Citizens Advice or Age UK can support people with the application process or call Dorset Adviceline on 0800 144 8848.
