An all-women’s fitness studio has celebrated the one-year anniversary of its opening.

SOBO Fitness was created by Lizzie Astin-Gregory to introduce a dedicated female fitness space in Southbourne where women can feel comfortable and create a community together while exercising.

Launched in November 2023, the studio on Seabourne Road has now turned one year old and celebrated the milestone with freshly baked goods and beverages.

Lizzie said: “When we moved to Southbourne, I was looking for a place to train myself and work with clients and there just didn't feel like there was anything suitable for women.

“There's lots of commercial gyms and leisure centres and they very much have the kind of do-it-yourself style of workout.

“But if you don't have the confidence, or perhaps you're nursing an injury or you're coming back from a life event, like a divorce or a trauma, you maybe need a bit more confidence and a bit more coaching.

“So I wanted to create something different to what was already available and small group training is really the perfect thing for women who don't necessarily have the confidence to do it on their own.”

Lizzie has received positive feedback from all her clients, Jenny, a regular member of the gym said: “I’ve got a lot out of these classes, friendships and I feel better in myself to do things that I didn’t think I could do like lift weights.

“There’s a real sense of camaraderie as well.”

Dee, another member enjoying Sobo Fitness, said: “I was here from nearly the beginning and I've seen Lizzie grow the business and seen lots of different people join.

“I really like it and I wouldn't want to go back to a mixed gym because we talk about the menopause and baby stuff and we all have great friendships too.”

Jade has also enjoyed the SOBO Fitness experience, she said: “I joined last summer and here is like my home, I’ve got friends that always support me and encourage me to help us become stronger and have that power.

“Lizzie is not only a trainer but a helper too, she helps with our mental health as well as our physical which is really important.”
