A BAR in Boscombe faces a licence review following concerns raised by police.
Dorset Police has applied for a review of the licence in place at Riviera Bar & Restaurant in Christchurch Road.
The force does not consider the premises to be promoting the licensing objectives of the prevention of crime and disorder and public safety.
The application, submitted under Section 51 of the Licensing Act 2003, will remain open for public consultation until Thursday, December 5.
Representations must be made in writing before this date to BCP Council’s licensing team.
The application record is available to view on the local authority’s website.
It is not the first time Riviera has been at risk of losing its licence; In 2020, long-running concerns about the bar, culminating in a “serious incident” of disorder in October that year, prompted Dorset Police to call it in for review.
Before the review was heard by a BCP Council licensing sub-committee, discussions had taken place between police licensing officer Louise Busfield and solicitor Philip Day who has represented the bar’s management.
As a result of these, it was accepted that the owners of the bar would leave with the business sold to two employees, and the licensing sub-committee agreed not to revoke or suspend the licence.
