A BOURNEMOUTH nightclub is facing having its licence revoked after several incidents of drunken revellers outside causing problems.
Havana nightclub in Charminster Road has seen 11 residents, including two councillors, write letters of complaint about noise and drunken behaviour of exiting customers.
Dorset Police has applied to the local authority asking its licensing department to review the club’s existing licence.
An incident outside the club during the early hours of Saturday, September 22 led to a man being bottled and in hospital with serious injuries.
Charminster councillor Alasdair Keddie said that since the serious attack on September 22, residents are still experiencing late night disturbances from clubbers leaving the building.
He said a similar licence review in 2022 has led him to “question whether the management are serious about upholding the licensing principles”.
Cllr Keddie added: “Charminster used to be a vibrant and welcoming night time destination, appealing to a broad range of families, students and visitors to the area.
“Now it is gaining a reputation for being unsafe and somewhere to be avoided. Continued incidents of this kind only serve to further damage its reputation and reduce footfall for businesses in the area.”
Fellow ward councillor Sharon Carr-Brown called for the nightclub’s opening hours, currently at 5am on Saturdays, to be restricted to midnight due to the high volume of residents that live in the area.
She added: "There is a cumulative impact on the local community and businesses as people lose confidence that they will be safe and the area is degraded by the effects of drunk people on the streets to all hours and the behaviour that comes with that.”
Police sergeant Gareth Gosling said: “Dorset Police are aware that there has been significant interest and complaints associated with Havana from local residents who are frequently disturbed by the activities associated with Havana.
“Dorset Police are also working closely with local councillors to explore other options to improve the overall experience for the residents of Charminster.”
Havana’s nightclub will be reviewed by BCP Council’s licensing sub-committee at a meeting on Tuesday, November 26.
Havana has been contacted for a comment but did not respond in time of print.
