BOSCOMBE runners triumphed through the stormy conditions for a 10k run in the wet and windy weather.
There was speculation as to whether the event would be held during Storm Bert and precautions and extra checks took place to ensure the safety of the ground for its runners.
The morning kicked off with a children’s 1.5k fun run at 9.30am followed by a 10k event at 10.30am.
Bournemouth Mayor Cllr George Farquhar attended to wish the runners good luck and congratulate the children in their race.
He said: “It’s a great turnout, We had just enough medals to make sure that everybody got one, which is fantastic.
“I think the junior runners did phenomenally, it put me to shame.
“It's that spirit and that camaraderie that everybody was clapping everyone on that I love. I'm so pleased to see so many out doing a sporting activity that they love and enjoy.”
Race director Judith said: “I’m really pleased with the turnout. We did think people would decide not to come, but I've been saying to people, the faster you run the dryer you'll be.
“It’s also great that we can support two major charities by putting on this event.”
Donations from the event will go towards University Hospitals Dorset and In Touch.
Hundreds of participants attended the 10k at Kings Park Athletic Stadium in Boscombe on November 24.
