BUCCANEERS boss Garry May hopes their loss at Buxton ends up being a good omen as his side head for a tricky National League tussle against Dudley at Wolverhampton tonight (7.30pm).
The defending champions were beaten 50-43 at Hi-Edge on Sunday despite leading by one point with only two races to go.
But May, in a centre green interview, said: “Losing here shows it’s going to be a tougher league this year than it was last year.
“We suffered our first league defeat last year at Buxton (54-40) but still went on and won the title, so maybe this is going to be a good omen.”
May, whose side swept to a league and cup double last term, added: “I think we deserved a point against Buxton and we’re gutted not to get it, but full credit to Hitmen.
Chris Mills, who returns against Dudley tonight after missing the meeting at Buxton.
Dudley: 1 Smart, 2 Morris, 3 Franklin, 4 Anderson, 5 Armstrong, 6 Sargeant, 7 Perry.
Buccaneers: 1 Mills, 2 A Baseby, 3 Halsey, 4 M Baseby, 5 Mason, 6 Howarth, 7 Resch.
