AARON Baseby has set himself a target of getting back into Buccaneers’ top five this term after helping them beat Buxton 49-41 at home last night.
The younger Baseby brother notched up six paid seven in Bournemouth Castle Cover’s National League triumph over the Hitmen at Poole.
Then Aaron, who was riding at reserve for the first team this year after dropping from number two, said: “My aim is to get back into the main team.
“I also want to help the side hopefully win the league again and get past King’s Lynn in the cup although we know we have a tough battle to pull back 13 points from the first leg.”
Looking back on Buccaneers’ vital victory over Buxton, which gained revenge for a 50-43 reverse at Hi-Edge, Aaron added: “It was a tough night, but it’s always great to get a win.
“We needed a win after three away defeats on the trot.
“It’s always good for your confidence going into two more away fixtures, at Scunthorpe tomorrow and Mildenhall on Sunday, to win your home matches.
“Everyone in the team rode well tonight, and hopefully we can carry that on over the next few days.”
Aaron added: “All our boys scored points, and that was the difference between the teams in the end.
“Craig Cook did great for them getting 15, but everyone chipped in for us and we’ll go into our other meetings with more confidence now following this victory.
“Personally, it was great for me being at reserve. I hadn’t been having the best of times riding this term.
“Going back down to reserve has sorted me out, and I had a couple of good races tonight.
“It gives you confidence. I had a tough time before but I’m enjoying myself again.
“Hopefully that will show on the track.”
Aaron, who lost out to Adam Allott by less than a tyre’s width in a scintillating race 14, added: “To lead someone like that for almost four laps, it shows me that I can compete with the best in this league.
“I’ll learn from my mistakes in that race, but hopefully I can carry that form on.
“I rode the racing line. On the last lap I didn’t and that’s why he got me.
“I was lacking in confidence, but that race has given me an extra buzz.”
Aaron has taken over the Buccaneers captaincy from his older brother Mark.
Talking about the switch, Aaron said: “They’ve (Bournemouth bosses Garry May and Neil Vatcher) asked me to be captain, and I’m happy with that.
“I’ve always liked to play my part in that sort of thing and gee the boys up anyway.
“I want the boys to do well and I’m sure we will do well.
“Mark is going through a tough patch at the moment. But we’ve all been there and got through it.
“He can now concentrate on himself and, hopefully, he’ll find his form and show what he’s really capable of.”
Assessing Bournemouth’s trips to Scunthorpe and Mildenhall, Aaron added: “We’re aiming for three points at Scunthorpe and I hope we’ll get those three points.
“Kyle Howarth used to ride there so, hopefully, he can give our team some input on the track so we can be on fire from the start.
“Realistically, we’ll try for one point at Mildenhall. Three will be tough, but anything can happen.
“We’ve been losing out in the last four or five heats away this year, but if we can keep it together for the full 15 races, I’m sure we’ll get what we deserve from the meeting.”
