NEIL Vatcher admits he’s relishing his role as a coach with the Great Britain under-21 camp.
Buccaneers’ assistant manager was appointed in March and has already been making a telling contribution.
Vatcher, Craig Boyce’s former mechanic, said: “It’s going really well and as well as the under-21s, I’ve been involved at every level downwards on the national front.
“We’ve had two training days, one at Buxton and one at Newport, and the guys attending ranged from eight years old to 15.
“Gary Havelock came to Buxton and Shane Parker was at Newport and both passed on their knowledge, experience and passion for speedway to the youngsters.
“Hopefully I’m passing on a bit of my experience to the younger guys that I’ve picked up working with Boycey for 15 years.”
Vatcher believes English prospect Joe Haines won’t be fazed by the hype surrounding Pirates stars Darcy Ward and Artur Mrockza in the world under-21 title semi-final tomorrow.
He feels the Wolves and King’s Lynn rider can make a big impression at Landshut.
Ward, the reigning champion, and Mroczka are favourites to come out on top in Germany.
Meanwhile, Vatcher said: “Joe is capable of getting into the top seven and reaching the three-round final.
“If he can get through this stage, he’s the type of rider who can jump out of the start and beat anyone. He’d have a good chance of getting a medal.
“Once you get to the final, it’s similar to the Grand Prix. It’s just collecting the points.
“He’s a contender, even though he’s only 18.”
