KYLE Howarth insists he won’t be fazed by thoughts of his horror smash at Newport earlier this year when he lines up there again in the National League Pairs today (2.30pm).
The teenage star took a heavy tumble during Buccaneers’ 56-34 defeat at Queensway Meadows in June and was fortunate not to sustain serious injury.
But Howarth says he will brush aside any lingering bad memories of that crash when he lines up alongside James Brundle for Bournemouth Castle Cover Buccaneers on his return to the Principality.
They team up to contest Group A against Dudley (Jake Anderson and Michael Dyer), Plymouth (Nicki Glanz and Mark Simmonds), Newport (Todd Atkin and Todd Kurtz) and Isle of Wight (Nick Simmons and Danny Warwick).
Group B comprises Weymouth (Byron Bekker and James Cockle), Rye House (Lee Strudwick and Shane Hazeldene), King’s Lynn (Simon Lambert and Adam Lowe), Scunthorpe (Steve Worrall and Scott Richardson) and Buxton (Adam Allott and Robert Branford).
Howarth said: “It doesn’t bother me going back to ride at Newport because it’s just another track.
“You have bad times on some tracks, but you have to just forget about it when you do.
“It’s a totally different meeting on Saturday, a new day.
“I’ll just go out there and do my best and I really think we can win it.”
Howarth, who has just joined Premier League outfit Somerset as a doubling up rider after finishing third in the British under-18 final at the Oak Tree Arena, added: “James Brundle is a great team rider.
“I think we have a good chance of victory if we both gate well. If we can stick together after that, we can do well.”
Brundle took a heavy tumble in his final outing for Buccaneers in their 60-32 defeat at Isle of Wight on Tuesday, badly twisting his ankle.
But Bournemouth Buccaneers boss Garry May has confirmed the former Eastbourne Eagles rider is now fully fit and will spearhead their pairs challenge at Newport.
