BUCCANEERS star James Brundle was left to rue ignition problems as Bournemouth’s National League Pairs hopes went up in smoke at Newport.
Brundle’s issues on the parade lap ruled him out of the opening heat, although partner Kyle Howarth went on to win that race.
Howarth then struggled against Isle of Wight pair Nick Simmons and Danny Warwick in the second race, with Brundle getting on track to keep the heat tally down to 5-4.
Eventual champions Plymouth, however, all but ended Buccaneers’ hopes with a 7-2 as Brundle failed to finish and Howarth trailed behind Nicki Glanz and Mark Simmonds.
The Bournemouth duo finished strongly, however, with a 7-2 against last year’s winners Newport, but their 17-point total left them third in Group A.
