With the cost of living going up and energy prices on the rise there's almost never been a better time to make the most of money saving tips.
In the latest weekly email from the MoneySavingExpert website, it has picked up a few bits of information to help out married couples, those in a civil partnership or those who are in a relationship.
With Valentine's Day having just gone past for 2022, MSE has shared a few tips for couples to be successful in money saving.
There are a number of benefits to be found as a result of being a couple.
How can couples claim up to £1,200?
Starting off, apparently, almost two million eligible couples miss out on an easy way to save on their tax bill, according to MSE.
The marriage tax allowance allows a non-taxpaying spouse to shift 10% of their annual tax-free allowance to their basic-rate (20%) taxpaying partner.
MSE adds: "It's worth £252 this year, plus you can claim back up to four tax years, as long as you were eligible during that time - backdating can net a cheque for an extra £970."
The non-taxpayer member of the couple will need to apply for this, which can be done on the HMRC website here.
MSE also recommended for partners who were living together but not married to get a cohabitation agreement.
They wrote: "It might not sound very romantic, but it may save a lot of stress and heartache later on if you sadly do break up."
