POOLE international Jacob Peters is one of 54 swimmers named in British Swimming’s World Class Performance Programme for 2018-19.
British Swimming says the selections are based on swimmers’ potential to win Olympic medals.
Peters, 18, will have access to sport science and medical services, training camps, international competitions and financial assistance.
His selection follows a season which saw him reach three finals at the Commonwealth Games and win relay medals on the Gold Coast and at the European Championship.
News of his selection came as Peters contributed to four of the 23 medals won by Poole in Sunday’s Swim England South West Relay meet at Millfield.
The tally included gold from the boys’ 10-11yrs 4x50m medley team of James McNamara, Luca Sartorius, Aaron Hopkins and Dan Axford-Smith, who also won silver in the freestyle.
The 12-13yrs mixed freestyle team of Alex Chiriac, Max Looker, Sheila Monera also struck gold before Ryan Openshaw replaced Chiriac for silver in the medley.
Peters was the lead-off man as Poole came within 0.06sec of a third gold in the 16/o mixed freestyle.
He clocked 23.11 and Alex Bryant (24.32), Thea O’Keefe (27.29) and Jazz McCrea (26.03) pushed Mount Kelly all the way to win silver.
Swim Bournemouth’s six-strong contingent of Freddie Hodgetts, Hugo Young, Jamie Workman, Sam Chamberlain, Halle Harris and Eva Hourigan won three golds and a silver in the 10-11yrs mixed and boys’ relays.
Poole underlined the strength of their 12-13yrs boys’ squad with four podium places in two events.
The A team of Ryan Openshaw, Finley Chandler, Chiriac and Looker won medley and freestyle silver with club-mates Ethan Hiles, OIlie Gibbs, Liam Duffy and Charlie Meek claiming double bronze.
Poole’s 10-11yrs swimmers won three other silver medals through the mixed freestyle team of Sartorius, Hopkins, Abigail Sedwards and Jess Huggins; Sedwards, Isla O’Conner, Lucy Gibbs and Huggins in the girls’ freestyle; and Gibbs, Martha Mitchell, Sedwards and Huggins in the medley.
Silver also went to 12-13yrs freestylers Monera, Steffi Zsold, Betsy Vavasour and Goddard.
Poole’s 14-15yrs swimmers contributed five bronze medals to the tally.
Miles Ward, Jack Channon, Kieran Duffy and Robbie Hemmings came third in the boys’ freestyle with Tom Cutbush replacing Duffy for a similar result in the medley.
Ella McNamara and Lauren Corn joined Ward and Hemmings to come third in the mixed freestyle and medley.
McNamara and Corn teamed up with Tia Paginton and Holly Harris to collect the girls’ freestyle bronze.
The 16/o events also produced a quartet of bronze medals.
Kelvin Wong, Peters, Oli Fairman and Bryant came third in the men’s freestyle and in a medley in which Ollie Weston replaced Bryant.
Peters, Weston, McCrea and O’Keefe were also third in the mixed medley, as were McCrea, Kath Baker, O’Keefe and Izzy Hepburn in the women’s freestyle.
Bronze also went to the 10-11yrs mixed medley team of Lucy Gibbs, Sartorius, Hopkins and Sedwards.
There was further cause for celebration as Thea O’Keefe and Holly Harris celebrated their 18th and 15th birthdays respectively.
Poole coach Barry Alldrick said: “This is a great event. The swimmers enjoy a great team day out and get used to racing and it helps the coaches see where everyone is for Arena League selections.”
But he added: “It’s disappointing that more teams chose not to enter.”
