CHARLIE Daniels and Andrew Surman both felt Cherries had been architects of their own downfall during their 4-0 defeat by Liverpool on Saturday.
A hat-trick from Mohamed Salah and a Steve Cook own goal saw the rampant Reds repeat the scoreline from last season's clash at Vitality Stadium.
Jurgen Klopp’s high-fliers benefited from a debatable decision for Salah’s 25th-minute opener with the Egyptian clearly offside when he pounced to score after Roberto Firmino’s shot had been saved.
Salah added a second after Firmino had seized on a loose pass from Cook to set up his team-mate before the luckless Cherries defender diverted an Andrew Robertson cross past Asmir Begovic.
In-form striker Salah completed his hat-trick when he got the better of Cook before rounding Begovic and slotting home number four midway through the second half.
Daniels said: “The fact we made mistakes rather than them creating a lot of chances was the most disappointing thing.
“I thought our performance was better than it had been against Huddersfield and, apart from the goal, Liverpool didn’t create a lot of chances in the first half, even if they had a lot of possession.
“They are a very good team. If you give any of the top sides chances, they are going to score and that is what we did. Our structure was good, especially in the first half.
“Salah takes his chances and that is the best compliment I can give him. If he gets a chance, nine times out of 10, he will score. That is the level he is at and that is why he is so good.
“The threat he has running in behind with his pace is probably the major factor and that goes with his finishing. They are great assets to have and that is why he gives defenders so many problems.”
Midfielder Surman, drafted in to the starting line-up following Lewis Cook’s injury, received the sponsors’ man-of-the-match award.
He said: “It was a strange game. They have a lot of quality and we set up in a way to try to stop them from hurting us. I felt we did that quite well until the first goal, which came out of nothing. I thought it was offside as well and it was a sloppy goal.
“We started the second half well and then gifted them a second. It is difficult then, you are 2-0 down against a team that can hurt you on the counter. The third and fourth goals killed us off.
“It was disappointing because I thought all the goals could have been avoided but we have to try to take the positives because they are a good team.
“We created and passed the ball pretty well at times but, when you gift teams like Liverpool goals, it is always going to be difficult.
“We have got the top two out of the way and I thought we gave a good account of ourselves at Manchester City. We are not going to lose any confidence from this scoreline and we have a massive game against Wolves to look forward to.”
