ALICE Tai admitted she “can’t stop smiling” after her world record-breaking showing in the Para Swimming World Series event in Berlin.
The Poole-born swimmer, 20, ended the competition with six medals to her name including golds in the S8 100m backstroke, 50m butterfly, 50m fly and 100m freestyle.
Tai also broke seven world records, including the 50m butterfly in the heats with a time of 30.67, only to then top it again with a 30.62 in the final.
That came a day after an S8 all-time best of 28.97 in the women’s 50m freestyle, the first time she had broken the 29 second barrier.
Speaking after that win, Tai said: “I couldn’t see my time until it came up on the screen and then I saw that I had gone sub 29.
“Previous to that my PB was 29.43. I’m in shock, I feel like I’m going to cry.
“I can’t stop smiling, what the heck!”
The event in Berlin was the last of seven World Series meets this year with focus now turning to September’s World Para Swimming Championships in London.
