WIMBORNE AC had cause to celebrate with two internationals in action and a share in promotion.
Invited to the prestigious Emsley Carr Mile, Piers Copeland smashed the four-minute barrier, clocking 3:56.05. The young Minsterman finished 12th of 16 in a star-studded international field in the City of London Stadium for the race which was incorporated in the Diamond League Muller Anniversary Games.
Emily Shaw, newly English Schools’ champion at 3,000m, saw off Irish, Scottish and Welsh challengers to win the Schools International Board title – effectively a British Isles Championship – at Swansea with a time of 10:05.67.
Team Dorset, a combined squad from Wimborne AC, Poole AC and Dorchester AC gained the Division One South West Championship in the lower age group of the Youth Development League promotion with second place in the final round at Eton.
Wimborne’s Harrison Burke won his under-13 high jump with 1.40m. Poole AC’s Thomas Farley (75m hurdles, 13.61s), Harry Farley (1500m, 5:02.41) and Oliver Woollard (long jump, 4.41m) were all in good form. In the under-15s, Daniel Sanchez ran 11.8s for 100m victory, while William Rabjohns clocked 2:08.58, winning the 800m from Bournemouth AC’s Arief McKenna (2:10.83).
BAC finished a strong third in the match and over the season. Abigail Phillips (100m, 12.97s) and Mia Wilkinson (75m hurdles, 12.08s) were among their under-15 stars.
Oscar Ewen Matthews won the under-13 long jump and clocked 26.89s for 200m. Bailey Cowell scored 8.25m with the shot and 32.65m in the javelin. Erin Wells ran the 1,200m in 4:19.75.
