OLLIE Cherrett revealed he would feel support from across the globe thanks to his side being put in the FA Cup spotlight tomorrow.
The Christchurch boss is preparing for the Wessex Premier outfit’s biggest cup game of their history, when they host National South Dulwich Hamlet in the third qualifying round at Hurn Bridge (7.45pm).
Christchurch reached the furthest they have ever gone in the cup, when pulling off a giant-killing to overcome Gloucester City on penalties in the previous round.
And after drawing out south Londoners Dulwich – the fixture, for which match tickets were sold out within hours, was selected to be shown live on the BBC via the red button and on iPlayer.
That exposure has worked wonders for manager Cherrett, who revealed those closest to him were set to tune in from home.
He told the Sydenhams Wessex League Football show: “To be fair, my mum hasn’t got a ticket so she’ll be watching it on the red button!
“We had the limit of 300 tickets. Unfortunately for Dulwich Hamlet, they can’t bring any away supporters.
“My brother and I are very close. He lives on the other side of the world in Australia. He is going to get up at 5.30 in the morning to have a bacon sandwich, a cup of tea and watch it on the iPad.
“It will be great to have that family support and obviously hopefully many others who will be supporting the lads watching it on the TV.”
He added: “Sian our secretary got an email, I think it was late on Wednesday night or Thursday morning saying our game had been selected and there would be a ground grading from the BBC before we could confirm anything.
“We then had to let our facilities director, Phil Old, know at Hurn Bridge, so it was just the three of us that were tight-lipped really, waiting and waiting.
“BBC came down, did what they had to do and very kindly confirmed that the game would go ahead on the iPlayer and red button.
“They made the announcement and the excitement started even more so.”
Having seen off the likes of Ascot, Bashley, Dorchester and Gloucester to reach the third qualifying round stage, Cherrett believes his side deserve nothing less than to be showcased.
“From our point of view, as a management team, the players have fully deserved it,” he added.
“What we’ve done this year in the FA Cup has been amazing.
“We will look forward to it. It’s exposure for the club, which is massive. With everything that has been going on in the world at the moment, any extra revenue we can get is very important.
“Hopefully we can put on a show on Tuesday.”
Victory for Priory would see them scoop another £5,625 in prize money, as well as being just one step away from the first round proper.
Asked whether his side could pull off another upset, Cherrett replied: “Who knows? If you were a betting man, you probably wouldn’t bet on us – let’s be honest.
“Will it be one step too far? Only time will tell. One thing I can guarantee is we will enjoy the experience, there’s no pressure on us.”
Elsewhere in the cup, Wimborne will also be looking to pull off an upset when they host National South Maidstone United at Cuthbury (7.30pm).
