MIDFIELDER Lewis Cook believes sides will have to be on their “A game” to defeat Manchester City, after labelling Pep Guardiola’s side as “one of the best teams in the world”.

One-time England international Cook played 64 minutes as Cherries fell to a 4-0 defeat, with the hosts looking comfortable throughout.

It was the fourth time the 25-year-old had visited the Etihad, with the former Leeds United player well aware of the challenge sides face when they visit the reigning Premier League champions.

When asked how hard Cherries had to work against City, Cook told the Daily Echo: “Yeah, really hard.

“Obviously a world class side but for us as players and as a team we want to play against best teams and look, it's a good test.

“I think we tried some stuff, didn't fully work out today, but at least we gave it a go, I guess.

“It was a tough afternoon but one we can look back on and try and put to the back of our minds and move on quickly.

“To be honest when you play City, it's a completely different game against such a tough team and one of the best teams in the world.

“You've got to try and be on your A game in every aspect or they just pierce you apart.

“We tried our best but like I said, we’ve just got to put it to bed and move on.”

Cook reached the milestone of 150 appearances for Cherries against Aston Villa last weekend.

If the midfielder stays fit and healthy, and in Cherries’ starting XI, he could reach 100 Premier League appearances this campaign.

After featuring at the weekend, he has now played 77 times in England’s top-flight.
