STARLET Cam Munn suffered a broken radius as Hamworthy United steered past Verwood Town 2-0 in the Dorset Senior Cup.
Aidan Shepherd opened scores after six minutes, before Eddie Hodge stretched the Hammers’ lead just before the half-hour mark with a curling effort from the edge of the area.
Verwood huffed and puffed in search of a way back into the game during the second period but were unable to produce much of note.
Midway through the second period, Munn went down injured with what was later confirmed as a broken radius.
Victory for Hammers confirms a place in the second round of the competition.
12 teams have entered this year’s tournament, with Poole Town, Weymouth, Sherborne, and Wimborne all awarded byes to the second round.
Hamworthy Recreation’s game with Portland United was postponed, whilst Shaftesbury and Dorchester each recorded 4-2 wins, beating Gillingham and Bridport respectively.
Weymouth and their Ridgeway rivals, Dorchester, had not entered the competition last season, whilst Hamworthy Recreation returned to the competition for the first time since the 2014-15 campaign.
Hammers reached the final of last year’s competition, losing in extra time against local rivals Poole Town at their County Ground home.
