CONTINUED frosty conditions have had a further impact on the non-league schedule, with a wide host of games in the local area postponed.
A mouth-watering clash at the top of the Southern League Division One South between Matt Tubbs’ Bashley and Tim Sills’ Wimborne was called off due to a frozen pitch.
Bash would have cut the gap between the two sides to just one point, with the Magpies sitting in third, four points above seventh placed Bashley, who are three points behind Exmouth in the final play-off spot.
The cold-snap has not just impacted games in the area, with Lymington's away game at Westbury also postponed.
Hamworthy United’s trip to the aforementioned Exmouth also fell afoul of the weather.
It was another fixture with ramifications on the play-off picture, with both Hammers and Exmouth on 31 points, Dan Cann’s side sitting fourth, above their Devon counterparts due to a superior goal difference.
Instead of a trip westwards, Cann’s charges took the opportunity for an extra training session down the beach.
Despite a 3G pitch at their County Ground home, Hammers’ reserves were also forced to call off their Dorset Premier League clash with Portland United Reserves. According to the Hammers’ Twitter account, whilst the pitch was playable, the surrounding surfaces was not.
Only Wimborne Town Reserves’ clash with Sturminster Newton survived the cold snap in the division, with the hosts picking up a 3-1 win.
In the Wessex League, teams in the east of the division were able to stage fixtures. Christchurch travelled to AFC Stoneham, losing 2-0, whilst Brockenhurst enjoyed a more successful trip to Fareham, winning 3-0 courtesy of goals from Harvey Woods, Mitchell Speechley-Price, and Conor Jevon.
Bournemouth Poppies lost 4-1 away to Baffins Milton Rovers, Marcus Cullen's late penalty scant consolation.
Elsewhere, former Cherry Brett Pitman notched all three-goals as AFC Portchester cruised past Blackfield & Langley 3-0.
There was a complete wipeout of fixtures in the Wessex Division One, with no games staged. Verwood, Ringwood, and Hamworthy Rec all had home games postponed due to frozen pitches.
