HORDLE golf star Liz Young became the fourth event winner within the 2023 Rose Ladies Series.
Gaining her third Rose Ladies Series title, Young shot 69 (-3), winning by one stroke over previous event winner Gabriella Cowley and taking home the prize sum of £10,000 at Bearwood Lakes Golf Club in Wokingham.
In 2020, Young had grown tired of cancelled Ladies European Tour tournaments so decided to take matters into her own hands. She linked up with fellow Brokenhurst Manor Golf Club member pro Jason MacNiven and set up a new event to help keep female golfers competitive, with the prize money coming from player entry fees.
Media coverage drew the attention of Hampshire-born golfer Justin Rose MBE, former number one and major champion along with his wife Kate Rose who stepped up to offer their support and further prize money funding.
Now in its fourth year, the Rose Ladies Series has become an exciting fixture on the women’s professional circuit, providing an excellent opportunity for female pros and high-ranking amateurs to compete, hone and showcase their talent as the Ladies European Tour ramps up.
Young, 40, said: “It’s amazing to get a win in for the 2023 season and have a hat-trick under my belt for the Rose Ladies Series! I can’t wait to start again on the LET but the Rose Ladies Series will always be incredibly special to me.
“I’ve been playing golf since I was 12 years old and I’ve always loved the competitiveness of the sport, and how different each experience is when you go out to play.
“The Rose Ladies Series has already done so much in raising the awareness of the female game and I hope that it continues to inspire the next generation, like my daughter, to discover the sport and level the playing field even further.”
