JODIE Burrage has received a wildcard entry to compete in the main draws of both the singles and doubles at Wimbledon this year.
The former Talbot Heath pupil has competed in the ladies singles in each of the past two years, beaten in the first round on each occasion.
In 2021 on debut, she was thumped in straight sets by American Lauren Davis, winning just three games in the process.
Things did not go much better last year, with a 6-2 6-3 defeat to Lesia Tsurenko.
Burrage did hit headlines for a different reason during that match, tending to a ball boy who had fallen ill in the contest and providing some Percy Pig sweets to perk him up.
The 24-year-old, who trained at West Hants Club in Bournemouth, will head into Wimbledon in buoyant mood this year, after her superb run to the final of the Nottingham Open earlier this month.
She was beaten by fellow Brit Katie Boulter, but the run marked Burrage’s first appearance in a WTA Tour final, which saw her jump 23 places to world number 108.
Burrage is also set to compete in the ladies doubles at SW19, handed a wildcard to take her place in the draw alongside Emily Appleton.
Wimbledon begins on Monday, July 3.
