MELISSA Courtney-Bryant faces a nervous selection wait after her 1500m bronze medal in the UK Athletics Championships.
Only the first two finishers in Manchester were automatically selected for the Budapest World Championships, so Courtney-Bryant’s third place may cost her dear.
The Poole AC star had become the first Briton to beat Laura Muir over the distance in nine years at the Stockholm Diamond League, but Katie Snowden triumphed at the trials instead.
A recent 4:00.45 personal best, which ranks Courtney-Bryant a narrow third on time, also strengthens her case. Former Wimborne AC ace Piers Copeland clocked 3:47.33 in the equivalent men’s final.
