POOLE swimmer Leo McCrea secured his spot at the 2024 Paralympics in Paris with a top-two finish at the World Para Swimming championships in Manchester.
McCrea, who is currently studying at Bournemouth University, shaved two seconds off his personal best to finish in 1:30.76, behind Antoni Ponce Bertran’s mark of 1:26.80, a championship record for the 100m breaststroke SB5.
There was over nine seconds between McCrea in second and Ukranian Danylo Semenykhin in third.
It is the second World Para Swimming championship in a row McCrea has claimed silver, after finishing behind Ponce Bertran in last year’s edition in Madeira, Portugal.
McCrea will now represent Switzerland, for whom he is eligible through his mother, at the Paralympic games in Paris next year.
It will be his second Paralympics, after having finished fifth in his debut games in Tokyo two years ago.
