HAMWORTHY United’s FA Trophy run came to an end with a 2-1 defeat at home to league rivals Larkhall Athletic in the second qualifying round.
Hammers had led at the Bob Lucas Stadium through Jack Tornaianen’s 19th minute strike, Larkhall responding with two second-half goals in nine minutes from Alex Lambert and Dawid Regula turned the tie on its head.
It was only Hamworthy’s second run in the competition, having been knocked out at the first qualifying round in their debut last year.
Dan Cann’s charges had beaten fellow Southern League Division One South outfit Melksham Town 3-0 to set up the clash with Larkhall, who themselves defeated Willand Rovers of the same division 2-0.
An even opening period saw each side enjoy a decent chance apiece before Tornaianen broke the deadlock.
Sam Griffin did the hard work down the left, the ball finding its way into the box for Tornaianen to finish.
Hammers could have gone into the break two goals to the good, Remus Nixon smacking the post.
Larkhall came back in the second period, Lambert popping up to restore parity on 66 minutes.
Nine minutes later, the comeback was completed, Lambert turning provider to tee up Regula for the winner.
Hammers’ focus now turns to Tuesday evening, when they host Melksham Town in a league fixture.
