ELLINGHAM & Ringwood Rugby Club have been presented with an oil painting in recognition of their pioneering role in developing women’s and girls’ rugby.
Terry Burwell, the Hampshire representative on the RFU Council, presented the artwork depicting England women’s team playing in last year’s World Cup final at Eden Park in Auckland.
The original oil painting was commissioned by RFU chair Tom Ilube, and is on display at Twickenham, with a number of prints presented to clubs who have played key roles.
Ellingham & Ringwood have produced internationals such as England duo Bryony and Poppy Cleall, Lisa Cockburn of Scotland, Wales ace Donna Rose and England and Great Britain 7s player Alicia Maude.
Burwell presented the print to the club’s captain Alice Elgar and former captains Libby Peak and Charlotte Smith.
