CHERRIES loanee Jonny Stuttle enjoyed a dream debut for Wimborne Town, netting what proved to be the winning goal against Westbury United.
Striker Stuttle, who has been prolific for Cherries’ second and third strings this season, put Magpies two goals ahead at New Cuthbury after earlier strikes from Connor Cocklin and Matt Neale, with Tim Sills’ men eventually closing out a 3-2 victory.
In front of a crowd of more than 900 on ‘Non-League Day’, Wimborne got off to the perfect start.
Oakley Hanger’s free-kick was played back into the danger area by Sam Jackson, where Cocklin managed to turn the ball home.
Sam Griffin, Harry Baker, Stuttle, Cocklin and Harry Morgan all had efforts to double the lead, before Wimborne did deservedly move 2-0 up, just before half-time.
Baker won the ball back and played in Neale, who fired into the net.
Magpies came flying out of the traps after the restart, Baker’s shot saved and falling to Stuttle, who turned wide on the rebound.
From there, Westbury began to grow into the contest and pulled a goal back around the hour mark, through Jasper Jones.
But Wimborne soon hit back. Hanger crossed for Neale, who teed up teenager Stuttle to get his debut goal.
Westbury did not give up the battle, setting up a grandstand finish. Kyle Tooze crossed for Jones to impressively volley in and halve the deficit.
Tooze then sent a lob just over the bar, before testing goalkeeper Ross Flitney late on.
Southern League Division One South leaders Wimborne remain four points clear of nearest challengers Frome Town, who have a game in hand.
Sills next takes his side to Tavistock on Saturday (3pm).
In the same league, goals from Luke Delaney and Frankie Monk earned Bashley a 2-0 win at Willand Rovers.
