THE rise of Bournemouth boxing star Chris Billam-Smith is set to be showcased in the form of a new BBC documentary over the Easter weekend.
Billam-Smith recovered from setbacks earlier in his career to reach the pinnacle and become world champion in front of a raucous crowd at Vitality Stadium in May 2023.
A four part series STABLE: The Boxing Game, produced by Lorton Entertainment, comes to screens on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the coming days.
It focuses on life at the McGuigan gym in London, featuring Barry and Shane McGuigan and their rostrum of fighters, including Billam-Smith, Ellie Scotney, Caroline Dubois and the Azim brothers.
The first two episodes will air on BBC One on Saturday evening, straight after Match of the Day. Episodes three and four then follow on Sunday, after Match of the Day 2 and The Women's Football Show. All episodes will be available via iPlayer from 6am this Saturday.
Jo Lapping, head of factual acquisition at the BBC, said: “Whether you’re a boxing fan or not is irrelevant when it comes to STABLE.
“This series is a compelling watch giving viewers an intimate look at the discipline, dedication, and determination needed to succeed in the sport.
“We’re excited to be bringing this to audiences across the BBC, introducing them to an inspiring, aspirational, tightly knit group of fighters at the start of a huge sporting year.”
