Cherries are hoping to make it a Premier League double over Manchester United this evening (5.30pm) – but who starts for AFC Bournemouth?

Injury has once again reared its ugly head for Premier League Manager of the Month Andoni Iraola, leaving Cherries’ head coach with a selection headache.

We’ve taken a guess at who will start tonight’s clash at Vitality Stadium.

Goalkeeper

Neto had an impressive game at Luton Town last time out, making some key saves before he was let down by his defence.

Criticism still persists – some fans unreasonably thought that the goalkeeper should have claimed the cross that led to Luton’s winner at the weekend, despite it being nowhere near him.

Iraola has frequently stated that he will not play fringe players just for the sake of it, so it seems like Mark Travers will once again watch on from the sidelines.

Defenders

Bournemouth Echo: Marcos Senesi returned from a hamstring issue last time out, and it appears likely that Iraola will keep his favoured centre-back partnership of the Argentine and Illia Zabarnyi together.

The return of Max Aarons has not yet spelled an end to Adam Smith’s run in the team, with the veteran right-back impressing in the former’s absence.

Whilst Lloyd Kelly appears to be favoured at left-back in recent weeks, Milos Kerkez’s best game in a Cherries shirt arguably came against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

By starting the Hungarian from the off, Iraola would be replicating the backline that kept a clean sheet in the return fixture. It’s proven it can work before, so we’re predicting Kerkez and Smith will start at full-back.

Midfield

Iraola has shown that he is not afraid to break up the axis of Lewis Cook and Ryan Christie since Tyler Adams’ return from a hamstring issue.

However, the American missed out at the weekend after suffering from back spasms, and will not feature this weekend.

Cook and Christie were a huge part of Cherries’ success away at Old Trafford in the return fixture, and in absence of a fully fit Adams, it makes sense to keep the pairing in the heart of midfield.

There are further options for the number 10 role. During Cherries’ strong run of form in December, Justin Kluivert excelled in the hole, and he looked dangerous in the role against Luton.

In fact, once he came off, Cherries lost a lot of attacking output and shape.

But injuries seem set to require him to play elsewhere. That then leaves either Alex Scott or Philip Billing.

Despite impressing after first returning from injury, Scott has struggled for consistency, with Iraola starting Billing the last time he opted not to play Kluivert as the number 10.

Expect the Dane to play behind the striker up top.

Wingers

Iraola has gone from an abundance of wingers to having little choice in who starts out wide.

Marcus Tavernier limped off with a hamstring issue at the weekend, joining Luis Sinisterra in the treatment room.

Antoine Semenyo also could not continue against Luton, with Iraola ruling the Ghanaian out of the Manchester United game with a calf issue.

Romain Faivre has very much been on the periphery since returning from a loan spell at FC Lorient, but the Frenchman is capable of playing out wide.

It has been hard to gauge whether he can play on the wing in Iraola’s system, with just half an hour of football in a Cherries shirt.

Throwing Faivre into the deep end against Manchester United seems unlikely.

It seems fairly likely that Dango Ouattara will be handed a starting berth, with the Burkinabe Iraola’s first choice to replace Tavernier last time out.

On the other flank we a plumping for Kluivert to start, with options limited.

Striker

Dominic Solanke finished the Luton game on the wing, but it feels farfetched to suggest that he would start out of position unless there was no other option.

Solanke’s shift to the wing was to facilitate Enes Unal’s introduction up top, but dropping Cherries’ top goalscorer for the Turkish international is implausible.

Predicted XI: Neto; Smith, Zabarnyi, Senesi, Kerkez; Cook, Christie, Billing; Kluivert, Ouattara, Solanke.
