BOURNEMOUTH lost by one run to Lymington when tailender Ollie Breckon was run out off the last ball in a cheeky attempt to take two byes to teenage wicketkeeper Robbie Hemmings and tie the match.
The Lions needed three runs to win off Australian Liam Thompson's last ball and two to level up Lymington's146-9.
Having required eight runs off the Adelaide left-armer's final over, Breckon and Cole Rushforth managed the first bye - to take Bournemouth to 145-9 - but with the ball in the wicketkeeper's gloves and amid much shouting and some hesitancy, the pair went for a second tie clinching run.
Breckon did not make it, leaving Hemmings and his teammates to celebrate Lymington's first ECB Southern Premier Division win of the season.
A lush, slow Chapel Gate outfield contributed to a relatively low scoring affair, only 13 boundaries and a six being hit in a 100-over match that yielded only 291 runs.
Lymington suffered the worst possible start with opening pair Jovan Dhariwal and Mo Abbas both clean bowled, leaving Kamran Dhariwal (34) and Gareth Berg (28) to work hard for their middle-order runs.
Breckon (2-19 off 10 overs) produced tidy bowling figures for Bournemouth, who lost their own wickets at 10-run intervals before Simon Woodruff (30) got stuck in.
Eight Bournemouth batsmen made starts by getting into double figures, but Berg (3-31), Guy Layman (3-22) and Mo Abbas proved difficult to get away as the Lions lurched to a worrying 110-8.
Rushforth did not give up the fight and hit 18 not out to take Bournemouth close.
The South African all-rounder was man-of-the-match as Bournemouth scraped a dramatic one-wicket win over Fareham & Crofton in the Southern Premier League T20 Cup.
He took 4-8 before hitting an unbeaten 28 and guiding the Lions from the brink of defeat at 58-8 past Fareham's 101 all out (Dan Conway 3-3).
