JAMIE Grose and Emily Hilliar emerged victorious at the first races of this year’s Upton Summer Series.
Held at Upton Country Park, 337 athletes took part across the one-mile junior race and 3.5 mile senior race, with ages ranging from four to over 80.
Hilliar of Poole AC was the first lady home, in an impressive time of 20.58, just three seconds off the female course record set back in 2017.
She was followed home by teammate Hayley Martin (22.02) and Purbeck Runners’ Jenny-Lee Marshall (22.26).
Poole AC took the female team race.
In the men’s race, Poole AC’s Grose, making his debut in the event, led from start to finish, coming home in 18.30.
He achieved this win just two days after taking part in the Bannister 70th anniversary mile in Oxford.
Second place went to fellow debutant Rob Arkell of Poole Runners (19.03), closely followed by teammate Dion Garner (19.06).
Last year’s men’s team series winners Poole Runners took first place in race one, with five events to follow.
Race two is due to take place on Wednesday, May 29.
