WIMBORNE Town have poached Drew Eccott-Young from Dorchester Town, despite the right-back committing to Tom Killick's side for 2024/25.

Former Hamworthy United full-back Eccott-Young was one of seven Magpies to pledge their allegiance to Dorchester on the final day of the 2023/24 campaign.

Player deals at this stage of the year are subject to approval from the FA, meaning any club could come in and gazump offers before terms are cemented.

And Wimborne have been successful in turning Eccott-Young’s head in the wake of Oakley Hanger's move to Poole Town, Eccott-Young departing having played 25 times for the Avenue Stadium club.

He will be reunited with Tim Sills, the pair having worked together at Hamworthy.

Dorchester manager Killick said: “Despite reaching an agreement with Drew at the end of the season, he has now decided to take an offer from Wimborne Town instead.”

Speaking to Wimborne’s media team, Sills said: “After losing Oakley, we've moved quickly to find a replacement.

“In Drew we have signed someone with fantastic talent and the hunger to progress.

“I've worked with Drew before and I know he'll bring the qualities we'll need for the new season.”

Eccott-Young becomes the fifth player to leave Dorchester this summer after Marcus Daws, Will Fletcher, Jonny Efedje and Lewis Waterfield.
