AFC BOURNEMOUTH defender Illia Zabarnyi tasted defeat with Ukraine in the first game of their Euros campaign, losing 3-0 to neighbours Romania.
Zabarnyi started and played the entirety of the 90 minutes as Ukraine were well beaten by Romania.
A mistake from Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin was punished by a sublime Nicolae Stanciu strike in the first half, before a quickfire double after the break from Razvan Marin and Denis Dragus made sure of the result with over half-an-hour remaining.
Despite only being 21, this is not Zabarnyi’s first taste of major tournament football.
The centre-back played all five games of Ukraine’s run at the 2020 edition of the Euros.
Zabarnyi and Ukraine return to action on Friday, when they face another neighbour in the form of Slovakia in the second game of Group E.
