TWO Poole based trampolinists have qualified for the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
Bryony Page and Izzy Songhurst have been selected to represent Team GB at the games this summer.
33-year-old Bryony is already a double Olympic medallist and is heading to Paris off the back of an incredible year in which she became both World and European Champion.
She is joined by 25-year-old Izzy who will be making her Olympic debut, a moment she has been waiting for since becoming a gymnast at age two.
The talented pair are part of Poole Gymnastics and Trampolining Club at Rossmore Leisure Centre, where their growing success is guided by coach Brian Camp.
Bryony said: “It really hasn’t sunk in yet that this will be my third Olympic Games. I have all the feelings – happiness, pride, excitement – I just want to stay in the moment as I know how fast everything goes. I’m going to relish every experience.
“My preparations are heading in the right direction and I’m looking forward to continuing that progress in my training in the next eight weeks, alongside the whole gymnastics team together towards one Olympic goal.”
First-time Olympian Izzy added: “It feels really special to be selected to represent Team GB. I’ve been training to go to an Olympics my whole life, so it feels great to know that the journey has been worth it, and all the hard work has paid off.
“I’m excited to compete in probably the biggest crowd I’m ever going to compete in front of. I’ve participated in competitions with large audiences, but experiencing the atmosphere of an Olympic Games is what I’m really looking forward to.”
Trampolining coach Brian Camp said: “I’m incredibly proud of Bryony and Izzy for making Team GB in this year’s Olympic Games.
"Both of them have already made their mark in the gymnastics world, which is a testament to their hard work and talent, and I can’t wait to see them compete on the world stage this summer.
“They will most certainly do Poole – and the nation – proud in Paris 2024.”
Hollie Jones, area contract manager for Everyone Active in Poole, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to hear that Bryony and Izzy will be heading to the Olympic Games.
“It’s really important to us that we support athletes in achieving their dreams by providing top-quality training facilities and coaching – so seeing Bryony and Izzy secure their ticket to Paris makes us really proud.”
Councillor Millie Earl, deputy leader and portfolio holder for connected communities for BCP Council, said: “This is really exciting news and a great testament to Bryony and Izzy’s talent and hard work, and also to the support they receive from their coach and club at Rossmore Leisure Centre.
“I will certainly be cheering them both on as they compete in Paris this summer.”
